About Ella

Ella is the ideal place to slow down the pace of travel and enjoy a few relaxing days in one of the best hotels in the country. From the Ella Gap are extraordinary, and on clear nights you can even make out the glow of the Great Basses lighthouse on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Ella is the perfect place to take a peaceful walk through the tea plantations until you reach temples, waterfalls, and scenic spots. The trails will make you hungry, which you can calm down while enjoying the best home cooking in the country and a refreshing cup of tea.
Ella is an excellent place for trekking. You can start with a trek to Little Adam’s Peak. Little Adams Peak’s bigger sibling is probably the most famous of the mountains in Ella. From the top of Little Adam’s Peak, amidst the mist that often envelops the surrounding mountains, you will see some waterfalls and a couple of tea factories. The walking tour that leads to Ella Rock is more challenging. Unfortunately, it is easy not to notice the junction that moves away from the tracks and get lost in the forest that covers the upper part of the slope.

Good to know
If you get a rainy day, there will be leeches. Put salt on your shoes beforehand to keep the leeches away, and they don’t like it!
Little Adam’s peak

To reach the path that leads to Little Adam’s peak, you have to go back down the road to the lower town, then Walk through the tea plantations and follow the way for a few hundred meters. The walk is pleasant and is quick to be done in less than half a day. The treck, including round trip, takes about an hour and a half. The trail crosses numerous tea plantations and offers an impressive view of the valley and the Kirindi Oya river.
Continue the path to the top; the trail at this point becomes a little more complicated. After twenty minutes, you will have reached the top of Little Adam’s peak. When the sky is clear, you will see the view of all the surroundings: the tea plantations, the tea factories he trains the hills around and the many local waterfalls, depending on the season.

The Rawana Falls

The Rawana Ella Falls is 19 m high and are located about 6 km from the Ella Gap, in the direction of Wellawaya. In the rainy season, the water rushes down the mountain walls forming what is called the “most impetuous” waterfall in Sri Lanka, but which could be dry during the dry months. In the area, you will find food stalls and various trinkets.

The Ella Rock

The itinerary that leads to Ella Rock on foot is challenging, and it is best to be accompanied by a guide. The hike takes from three to four hours, and during the climb, it is easy to get lost, especially on hazy or cloudy days.

The Nine Arch Bridge

The Nine Arch Bridge is among the most spectacular in the world and s bis located between Ella station and Demodara station. It is considered one of the engineering marvels of the early 20th century. Access is not difficult but requires a train ride from the city of Ella. Before venturing out, it is advisable to check the train timetables to see the bridge during the passage of one of the local trains. The giant arches support the bridge in a curved path that connects the mountains, and the British government commissioned the work. (during the British government).

What is The Best Time to go Ella

Like other areas of the Hill Country, Ella does not have a real dry or monsoon season, but the massive rain risk is high in any season! Low rainfall months go from February to July, while the rainiest, and therefore less suitable for long jungle treks in October, November, and December where the sky is often cloud-laden in every period unexpected downpours alternate with full sun, giving landscapes of sparkling green. The temperatures in these mountains are enjoyable and stable throughout the year, between 20 and 25 ° C, and pleasantly cold (though often very humid) nights. You can visit it all year round, but you will have fewer problems with the rain if you decide to pass between February and early October!
